Dr. Katz – Professional Therapist - Review

Dr. Katz – Professional Therapist
Ages: Not ratead

Hi, I’m Dr. Lou Katz (not a Professional Therapist, though) and I will be reviewing Dr. Katz. I must admit it was the name that got me – I had no idea what to expect.

is a cult classic, about a psychiatrist and the shtick is that the doctor’s patients are all real people cartoonized in Squigglevison. Rodney Dangerfield, David Duchovny, Woopie Goldberg, David Mamet, Conan O’Brien, Winona Ryder, Jon Stewart, the Smothers Brothers and many others are all there on the couch.

The hilarity of it all is what kept the show going from 1995 to 1999. It was the brainchild of Jonathan Katz who might be remembered as the Katz in Katz and Jammers. The “sessions” are supported with the ongoing relationships with his deadbeat twenty-five year old son (Jon Benjamin), and his apathetic secretary Laura. The series won both Emmy and Peabody awards.

The release of the complete series on DVD is beautifully done. The 13 disks in clear acrylic pages are bound like a book. Also included is Memories from the Couch, a booklet of post-analysis stories, and the box contains the complete list of the shows with the guest(s) that appeared so you can pick out your favorites. It would make a much appreciated gift for the Dr. Katz fan or any other Dr. Katz.

Like any other compilation of shows, I prefer to watch these only one or two at a time - this set of 81 episodes will keep me going for a year.
