Volume 1 Adventure Collection - Review

Volume 1 Adventure Collection
Ages: Everyone-Teen

This collection is a real treasure trove of adventure games:

  • Keepsake
  • Nibiru
  • Secret Files of Tunguska
  • Return to Mysterious Island
  • Isle of Dead Reefs

I am a big fan of the games that The Adventure Company/Dreamcatcher produces and this selection includes some that I have already played, and one that is my all time favorite Keepsake. Locations in the games vary wildly, from Aztec caves, research stations in Syberia, to an Academy of Magic and there are three - count 'em three wonderful female heroines.

  • Keepsake (/reviews/keepsake.html) is about a young girl searching for her friend, who has disappeared somewhere in a vast magic academy - a little Harry Potterish.

  • Nibiru (/reviews/nibiru.html) has Martin hopping around the world searching for an important artifact; Prague, an abandoned Nazi underground installation, Mexico and finally down into the depths of a Mayan temple.

  • Secret Files of Tunguska (/reviews/tunguska.html). Didn't play it when it came out, but there really is such a place as Tunguska, in 1908 the site of an explosion of unparalled size. The main character searches for her father, who seems to be involved in some way with the event and has disappeared. Her search takes her into Siberia, where at every instant she has to evade Russian secret service agents who are also investigating the event. But that is only the beginning.

  • Return to Mysterious Island. What starts out as a game in Survivor mode soon becomes a Jules Verne adventure, complete with fanciful mechanics, a story upon a story and a wonderful competent heroine.

  • Isle of Dead Reefs. Pirates, murdered monks, and a ancient relic carrying a blood curse which brings only pain and misery to the Baron’s ancestors. Our computers didn’t like this one - yours might be different, or you can ask TAC for a patch. We were so happy with this great basketful of adventure games, we didn't bother.
